‘The Quantum Trailblazer’ is an asymmetric, real-time game in which a team of agile scavengers raid a floating sky-island in their steampunk airship.
One player opposes the others by controlling powerful, but clunky, robot defenders.
The scavengers don’t know for sure which parts of the island are safe to walk on – they only see the probability of an opening void on the top of each tile.
The robot player can see both sides of the tiles at all times, using our unique “Mirror Box” system, and so knows which areas are unstable.

The Quantum Trailblazer is the first game we’ve released using our innovative ‘Mirror Box’ system. By using a carefully measured, three-dimensional board in our design, the robot player gets to see all the hidden information in the game while the others remain unawares. It’s like they have “X-Ray Vision”, and can see through the tiles which the other players are struggling to turn over!
In addition to having a unique visual impact and instant appeal to gamers, this 3D board system opens up the possibility of a whole new genre of games based on asymmetric information. We look forward to showing off the possibilities over the coming months.
We’ve pushed this asymmetry to the max in a number of interesting ways. For example, while the robot player can take as long as they need to plan their movements exactly, the explorers are racing to make all their moves before time runs out. This leads to unique and exciting gameplay as the explorers make a mistake, mis-step, and recover again from it – sometimes several times during a single turn.
